I hosted my first book club this week. It was beautiful. Everyone was laughing and relaxing, eating. It was a tight fit, it worked out that not everyone could make it because my apartment isn’t big enough. I loved hearing everyone’s perspective and how much we all agreed about how bad the book was. It felt like Girl Scouts or summer camp, it felt like… youth.
Paul and I try to keep “play” alive, we do this game
” PAUL THE HOUSE IS ON FIRE!”
and he drops wherever he is and I have to find a way to drag him to the door safely. Anyway, my life has felt so light lately, even in my luteal phase.
Speaking of luteal phase, I just sweat so much more during this phase, washing dishes and my armpits are soaked. I should probably go for a run and sweat everything out but…. ya know we’ll see. I used to run all the time but then I hurt my back and now it’s 20 years later and I get to the gym once a month.
Back to the book club, it was such an honor creating a space where women felt safe, safe enough to bring their kids. Angel was a total bitch, and then she went into time-out for the rest of the party. Everyone, harmonious, laughing, giggling. People talking over each other in excitement like families do. It felt like I was making my family bigger, the safety and softness I’ve always been searching for.
The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.
